Madness Perhaps
Why do I need the world's vast, sweeping view,
When all my longing is fulfilled in you?
Is there a greater truth beneath the sun,
Than losing all for her, the only one?
What is the worth of life's brief, fleeting breath,
If in her soul my spirit conquers death?
Am I not dead to all the world implies,
Alive alone before her searching eyes?
Does it matter if I cast away my name,
My past, my identity, my pride, my shame?
When she is my god, the savior of my mind,
My purpose, my everything, the truth I find?
Is it sheer madness to desire her alone,
To surrender all I've ever held or known?
Can I truly leave the chaos and the pain,
The hollow shell that I will not sustain?
If she is my victory, complete and whole,
Who needs the empty prizes of the soul?
And in the end, when all is stripped away,
Isn’t losing everything the greatest gain today?
Why should I chase the world’s loud, restless sea,
When one quiet gaze has conquered me?
What is truth in this life of dust and disguise,
If eternity trembles within her eyes?
I wander through crowds, yet remain alone,
A stranger to all, though my heart has a home.
Am I living at all, or merely a shell,
Redeemed for a moment from my private hell?
Let them keep their honors, their titles, their fame,
What use is glory without her name?
If I cast off my pride, my reason, my role,
Would I lose myself or finally be whole?
Is it madness, perhaps, this desperate plea,
To give up the world for one soul to set me free?
So, let me be defeated by her, and in that cost,
I will be forever victorious, beautifully lost.
